Jade Yoon is a London based Korean visual artist whose work explores the intersection of language, symbolism, and mysticism. Drawing from Korean talismanic traditions, asemic writing, and systems of visual communication, Jade Yoon creates intricate compositions that blur the line between the legible and the unreadable. Her drawings resemble invented scripts or ancient diagrams, using icons, signs, and abstract forms in ways that evoke ritual, protection, and the human desire to decode. Influenced by artists such as Mirtha Dermisache, Hilma af Klint, and Austin Osman Spare, Jade Yoon is interested in how cultural context shapes meaning and how language and mark making can be both a spiritual bridge and a barrier. Her work is a response to the tension between personal expression and collective interpretation, often inviting viewers to reflect on their own instincts to read, recognise, and assign value to unfamiliar symbols. She works primarily with ink, pencil, and digital drawing tools, often combining traditional mark-making techniques with the precision and layering possible through digital media. Each piece begins as a freeform exploration—guided by intuition, repetition, and rhythm—eventually building into complex systems of consciousness.
