Greetings (2025) was a part of a collaborative exhibition Black Holes : Act 1 with Suley Wellings-Longmore, who created the wooden sound sculpture. Black Holes is an exploration of critical race theory through Sci-Fi, Sun Ra and satire. Holding a mirror up to the UK after 2024 race riots, this exhibition created a world in which aliens visit our country and make a tantalising offer to the nation, in exchange for the Black British population. The Act 1 covers the discovery of the aliens in London up to the referendum that the government calls to let the country decide whether to accept the controversial offer or not.
Greetings is a representation of the message sent to earth by the aliens, consisting of modular groups of geometric shapes that is simultaneously ancient and futuristic. The message reads:
“What would you trade
For the glories of your Empire to be remade?
To renew your riches from times of old
We will deliver you jewels, resources and gold
To heal your land and clean your air
Secrets of nuclear fusion we shall share
To protect your interests in the face of defiance
Yours are our munitions and our science
In exchange for being offered this most generous pack
We want all in your land who are Black.”
